Warm Hubs

A WARM WELCOME IN WHITTINGTON

More than 80 community spaces and council buildings are now offering a Warm Welcome to Shropshire residents this winter. The Warm Welcome project is a collaboration between Shropshire Council and partners which highlights community venues where people can go for free to socialise, meet friends and take part in activities while also keeping warm.

A web page highlighting each Warm Welcome location, its opening times and what is on offer is now available on the Shropshire Council cost of living website.

Whittington Parish Council have been working with The Senior Citizen’s Hall and St John the Baptist Church to support them with signing up as Warm Welcome Hubs and at the November Parish Council meeting grants were approved to support them with the increases costs they will incur.

The Senior Citizen’s Hall hosts a Coffee morning every Thursday for people to meet and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee with biscuits and sometimes cake. There is a library that people can use and also free wifi internet access if people want to bring along their computers. On a Monday afternoon the hall is also open for whist so anyone wanting to join in or simply come and make use of the warm space and enjoy a hot drink and cake is very welcome.

The Church is now open between 10-4pm every day and there is a drop in on a Monday from 10.30-12.30pm providing hot drinks and food.
